How it begins
There are countries you visit for one thing and countries that keep producing another thing behind it. Ecuador is emphatically the second kind, and it is the most underrated destination in this entire series.

Three lines from the checklist
Specific, or it is not worth your money.
The last working chapter of every guide is a checklist. Three of its lines, quoted exactly, as verified September 2026:
- Money in your pocket on day one: 200 to 300 dollars in small notes, one card in your wallet, a second card and the passport in the hotel safe. The Galápagos fee cash kept entirely separate and untouched until Baltra.
- Two weeks out: check the current United States, United Kingdom and Canadian travel advisories for Ecuador, and check whether an estado de excepción is live in any province you are visiting. Both maps move. Chapter 13 has the links.
- Packing, the practical: no plug adapter needed, since Ecuador runs 120 volts on United States plugs. A refillable water bottle, since you will buy large bottles and decant. Prescriptions in original packaging. A spare pair of glasses.
Quoted from the edition on sale today. Fares, opening hours, and entry rules move, which is why the book names the authority to confirm each one with and the month it was checked. If one of these has gone out of date, tell us at hello@compasserie.com and the edition gets corrected and reissued.
Stay current
When this guide stops being true, you will know.
Entry rules change, a museum moves its free hours, a neighborhood changes character. When that happens in a guide you are relying on, we correct the edition and we write to tell you. You will also hear when a new city goes up. That is the whole list.
Two fields, because two is all we need. No advertising, no pixel, and we never sell, rent, or share the list. Every email has a working unsubscribe link and the subject line says Compasserie and the city, nothing else. How we handle it.
