At twenty-five you went to Pride and you drank too much in the sun, you lost your friends by four in the afternoon, you queued forty minutes for a drink you did not need, and you spent the following day in bed. You experienced perhaps nine percent of what was actually happening in that city that week. You did not know there had been a chamber concert, an exhibition of photography from the eighties, a garden party at an embassy, or a talk by someone who had been at the very first march. The last working chapter of every guide is a checklist. Three of its lines, quoted exactly, as verified September 2026:
- A small cross-body bag rather than a rucksack for the parade day, with the essentials in a front pocket, since bag checks and glass bans are now standard at the large European Prides.
- The organizers' own website and social channels bookmarked, and checked in the final week for postponements, route changes, and security notices; a listings site is not enough after 2026.
- A reserved terrace, grandstand, or boat place booked months ahead in Amsterdam, Madrid, or Sydney, and a hotel two streets from the route rather than on it.
Quoted from the edition on sale today. Fares, opening hours, and entry rules move, which is why the book names the authority to confirm each one with and the month it was checked. If one of these has gone out of date, tell us at hello@compasserie.com and the edition gets corrected and reissued.
